The Plane Pull event features teams from around the city competing against each other to see who can pull a 76,000-pound plane the fastest over a predetermined distance of 50 feet. This year’s event was held on Atlantic Aviation’s tarmac, and was comprised of 28 teams. In addition to MarketPlace, several of their merchants participated, including Chickie’s & Pete’s, NYIC, OTG and HMS Host. This year’s winner was Texas Friends, with a time of 12.46 seconds. The teams collectively raised $144,717.13 to support the PRMH, with the Chickie’s & Pete’s team raising the highest amount for the fourth year in a row, $20,163.88.

The PRMH provides a home away from home for families of critically ill children receiving treatment at Philadelphia-area hospitals. The Plane Pull event was created to raise funds and increase awareness for the services provided by the Ronald McDonald House, which operates two homes in the Philadelphia area. The original Ronald McDonald house was founded in Philadelphia in 1974 and is the model for 300 houses around the world.

“The Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House Plane Pull is a great event for a great cause,” said Mel Hannah, Vice President and General Manager of MarketPlace PHL. “The MarketPlace PHL team and participating merchants look forward to this event all year long.”

Every year, airport merchants also support the event through in-kind donations of food and refreshments for the participants. Merchants that provided food and drinks include, Piattino, Starbucks, Dunkin’ Donuts, McDonald’s, La Colombe, Good 2 Go, Chickie’s & Pete’s, Paradies Shops, Hudson News, and OTG.
