Chef Michael Symon opens Bar Symon at Philadelphia International Airport

MarketPlace PHL and the Philadelphia International Airport congratulate Chef Michael Symon on the successful opening of Bar Symon in Concourse D. With locations in Pittsburgh International Airport and Washington Dulles International Airport, Bar Symon is quickly becoming a well-known destination for busy travelers seeking a cozy place to relax before and after flights.

Chef Symon became well-known after winning the first season of “The Next Iron Chef” and is now best known as one of the hosts on ABC’s “The Chew.” His Bar Symon restaurants offer busy passengers hearty comfort food in an energetic tap house environment. Menu selections include signature dishes like the award-winning Fat Doug burger, a pulled pork sandwich with coffee barbeque sauce and a potato and cheese pierogi. Bar Symon is equipped with power outlets and flight status screens so travelers can recharge and keep track of their next flight.

Bar Symon worked with two local organizations to certify and prepare prospective employees to work in the food industry. Unite Here Local 274, the labor union which represents hotel and food service workers, and Philly Concession Enterprises, a company that operates airport restaurants, trained the personnel. In total, 76 Philadelphia residents went through the process and were hired as servers, bartenders and cooks at the restaurant.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Chef Symon and his newest Bar Symon restaurant to Philadelphia International Airport,” said Mel Hannah, vice president and general manager of MarketPlace PHL. “Bringing award-winning chefs and exciting restaurant options to our passengers greatly improves their travels.”
