PHILADELPHIA (Nov. 22, 2011) — Recently named “Best Sports Bar in North America” by ESPN, the newest location of Chickie’s & Pete’s restaurant can now be found in Terminal D at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL). Today, the airport and MarketPlace Philadelphia Management—the manger of the food and retail program for more than 160 stores at PHL—welcomed the fourth storefront of this iconic establishment.

An official ribbon-cutting ceremony to establish Chickie’s & Pete’s new home at the top of Terminal D took place today. Among the officials in attendance were Mark Gale, A.A.E., CEO of PHL and Pete Ciarrocchi, owner of Chickie’s & Pete’s. Guests enjoyed sampling the restaurant’s infamous Crabfries® and meeting “Crabby,” Chickie’s & Pete’s mascot as well as “SoulMan,” mascot for the Philadelphia Soul. Ciarrocchi is a co-owner of the Soul.

Chickie’s & Pete’s is a Philly tradition that dates back more than three decades. Owner Pete Ciarrocchi followed the culinary footsteps of his parents to create a food and entertainment brand that has become synonymous with Philly sports. The airport location will offer sandwiches, Cheesesteaks, wraps, salads and soups, mussels, shrimp, crabs and, of course, Crabfries®.

“As a Philly brand, Chickie’s & Pete’s brings the excitement and energy of our sports teams to travelers,” said Clarence LeJeune, president of MarketPlace Philadelphia Management. “This new location offers another venue for passengers to dine and catch a game before their flight.”

The first Chickie’s & Pete’s opened in 1977, in the Mayfair section of Philadelphia by Peter Sr. and his wife Henrietta. Peter and Henrietta’s son, Pete, began experimenting with seafood recipes and the famous Crabfries® were born, making Chickie’s & Pete’s the most popular bar around. Chickie’s & Pete’s has grown to include six locations in the tri-state area. For more information, visit
