PHILADELPHIA MARKETPLACE AND DIVISION OF AVIATION CELEBRATE 20 YEARS WITH B/C CONNECTOR
MarketPlace PHL, LLC, at the Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) and the Division of Aviation (DOA) celebrated the 20-year anniversary of the opening of the B/C Connector on Monday, June 4. MarketPlace PHL hosted a celebration at the B/C Connector stage with the unveiling of a commemorative work of art, food samples, live music and more.
In June of 1998, the city of Philadelphia’s DOA and MarketPlace PHL embarked on a long-term adventure—an adventure that would positively transform the airport retail and concessions program for decades to come. The relationship between MarketPlace PHL and the DOA has always been and continues to be strong and collaborative. The celebration recognized current merchants who were partners from the beginning—Auntie Anne’s, GAP, Jet Rock Bar & Grill, Johnston & Murphy, Lids, Pennsylvania Market, Philly Bends and Twists, Philly Pretzels, Saladworks, Sbarro, Sunglass Hut, Time to Fly, UPS and Yummy Pretzels.
“Twenty years ago when this relationship began, we set out to make a difference in the aviation industry,” said Jim Tyrrell, chief revenue officer at PHL. “Two decades later, we have a world-class retail and concessions program, and are excited to see what the future holds for this team.”
The ceremony featured the debut of an original work of art titled, “B to C and Beyond,” by Philadelphia artist Jeff Schaller which commemorates the 20-year relationship. Schaller was tasked with capturing the spirit of the anniversary on canvas. The celebration also included giveaways to surprise and delight passengers, a prize wheel, cupcakes and a live musical performance by Philadelphia-area guitarist Chris Huff. Passengers had the chance to win a $20 gift card to Finish Line, Starbucks, Dunkin’ Donuts, The Body Shop, L’Occitane, Pinkberry, Victoria’s Secret, MAC or GAP every 20 minutes between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
“We can’t believe it’s been 20 years since our relationship with the B/C Connector and the DOA started,” said Mel Hannah, vice president and general manager of MarketPlace PHL. “Congratulations and thank you to the DOA, the merchants and their employees, who have been steadfast partners since 1998. Time really does fly when you’re having fun. Cheers to 20 more years!”
