PHILADELPHIA July 24, 2019 — Philadelphia Marketplace, the restaurant and retail concessions at the Philadelphia International Airport (PHL), supported the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House (PRMH) Guest Chef Program last month. From June 24 through 28, restaurant merchant chefs cooked meals for families staying at the PRMH on 40th and Chestnut Streets.

The Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House supports families of seriously ill children by creating a community of comfort and hope. One of the many services that the PRMH provides for the families is the Meal Program. The evening meal is a welcome relief for families as they return from a long and often exhausting day at the hospital. The dinner not only provides the families with a nutritious meal that might otherwise be skipped, but it also creates an opportunity for families to interact with one another, share their stories, and learn from people who are in similar situations.

The Philadelphia Ronald McDonald Chestnut Street House location completed an expansion project this spring. The eight-story tower has increased its occupancy from 45 rooms to 127 — and launched a new commercial kitchen. The expanded space and new and improved kitchen means they are able to serve more families in need.

The following restaurants were excited to participate in the program and Philadelphia Marketplace felt very fortunate for the opportunity to provide meals for the week, given the long wait list for the Guest Chef Program:

Monday, June 24 – Legal Sea Foods served up Greek salad, shrimp & garlic over rice, penne vodka pasta with chicken, and an ice cream dessert.

Tuesday, June 25 – La Colombe provided breakfast for dinner with an egg/omelet station, pancakes, bacon, turkey sausage, home fries, and assorted desserts.

Wednesday, June 26 – Midfield Concessions Enterprise made smoked beef brisket with barbecue sauce, mashed potatoes, asparagus, salad with tuna, and tiramisu for dessert. NYIC also provided grilled burgers — beef and black bean on a rye and whole grain bun.

Thursday, June 27 – Chickie’s & Pete’s served up roast beef with gravy, red roasted potatoes, broccoli, Caesar salad, veggie pasta for the non-meat eaters, and assorted deserts.

Friday, June 28 – OTG whipped up bacon-wrapped meatloaf, cauliflower sformato (with roasted pine nuts and tomato coulis), Mom’s famous Mac ’n’ Cheese, mashed potatoes, and white chocolate cherry bread pudding.
