PHL’s Marketplace Food & Shops Hosts Third Annual Job Fair for Students at Philadelphia Academies Inc.

PHILADELPHIA—February 10, 2011—Careers for local high school students are taking off at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL). The Marketplace Food & Shops at PHL partnered with Philadelphia Academies Inc. to host a job fair for students.

Concession managers were on-hand to discuss employment opportunities and conduct interviews with students. Participating schools included George Washington High School, Swenson Arts and Technology High School, Jules Mastbaum Area Vocational High School, Benjamin Franklin High School and Horace Howard Furness High School. This is the third annual job fair event between Philadelphia Academies and Philadelphia Marketplace.

“Our partnership with Philadelphia Academies is a win-win for both our merchants and the students,” said Anna DiGregorio, Director of Marketing for the Philadelphia Marketplace Food & Shops. “It’s a natural fit for our merchants to work with students that are preparing for careers in the travel industry.”

For more than 40 years, Philadelphia Academies has been expanding life and economic options for Philadelphia’s public school students through career-focused programming. Through partnerships with public high schools, Philadelphia Academies offers 10 different career academy models that prepare young people for employment and post-secondary education. Students who attended the job fair at PHL are a part of the Hotel, Restaurant, Travel and Tourism Academy.

“We’re delighted that the Marketplace Food & Shops continues to offer opportunities for our students and helps raise awareness for our organization through this event,” said Corvette M. Kittrell, Program Facilitator of Philadelphia Academies. “We are only able to carry out our mission thanks to the generosity of our community partners like the Food & Shops at PHL.”
